Ovechkin on the Edge

Brian Campbell is the latest victim in what has seemingly become a pattern of borderline hits from the league’s most dynamic player, Alexander Ovechkin.  This time however, Ovechkin was assessed a match penalty and a boarding major for the dangerous hit, and should be due a suspension (if his salary was less and his name wasn’t synonymous with superstardom).  UPDATE - The league did indeed suspend Ovechkin to the tune of two games.

5 Prospects to Watch For in 2010-11

Next season should bring along more young players into the NHL, and while most fantasy hockey owners will focus on names such as Cody Hodgson, Taylor Hall, and Alex Pietrangelo, let's look at some other names that could help fantasy teams in the near future.

Here are five NHL prospects who are on my radar for 2010-11.

Hockey Stock: Buy Low Keepers

Trade deadlines in many leagues may have already come and gone but for fantasy hockey owners in keeper leagues there is little time to rest and looking ahead is always an important part of building a champion calibre team.

Here are a handful of players that keeper league fantasy hockey owners might consider acquiring at below-market value.

Trouble In the Desert

If the Phoenix Coyotes aren’t able to put bodies in the stands they are at the very least able to provide some fodder for NHL pundits and fans alike.  The situation that we are seeing in the desert is one that will set a new precedent for NHL teams in the future, because for those of you who don’t realize it there are about 6-8 other teams that may be in a similar predicament to the Desert Dogs very soon.  With the NHL acting as temporary owners of the Coyotes until a “suitable owner” is found, this season has proven to be an interesting case study.

Flames' Howse is Bruin

Flames' Howse is Bruin When the Calgary Flames drafted WHL'er Ryan Howse in the 3rd round (74th overall) they hoped the diminutive winger would prove to become a valuable prospect for the organization.  Well, Howse, 5-11, 195 lbs, has grown a few inches, added a few pounds, and continues to improve on what was a brea... OHL Playoff Predictions - Round One

With the last weekend of the OHL regular season in the books, the 2010 OHL Playoff picture has been set.

That means...it's prediction time. Last year, I went 11-4 over the course of the playoffs, but was a snazzy 10-2 through the first two rounds. Let's see if I can mimic the results this year.... Read more...

Daily Fantasy Hockey Gold

Happy St. Patty's Day!  May the beer flow green and both you and your fantasy hockey team's score....and look out below for the St. Patricks Day video I bless you with today.

What a night for John Tavares.  2 goals and 5 points as he led the Islanders to a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks.  The slump is bumped.

Mikael Samuelsson left the Canucks/Islanders game in the 3rd period with a shoulder injury.  Early reports say it is not seperated, but he will have an MRI on Wednesday.  He's been red-hot as of late so this is a tough break for fantasy hockey owners hoping to benefit from him during fantasy playoffs, so stay tuned.  During the 2nd period Samuelsson was moved to the 2nd line while Alex Burrows moved back to the top line with the twins and scored his 32nd goal of the season.

Of course he did.  Kari Lehtonen stopped 45 of 47 shots and was superb in the Dallas Stars 8-2 thumping of San Jose.  If you read Daily Fantasy Gold yesterday you will recall I advised you to only to start Lehtonen if you enjoy playing on highways or with fire.

The Carolina Hurricanes called up prospect defenseman Jamie McBain yesterday and he picked up an assist
