Canucks "Want Niedermayer Badly"

E-mail Print

Tim Sassone of the Daily Herald suggests that with Scott Niedermayer a pending UFA, Ducks GM Bob Murray is considering shopping Olympian Scott Niedermayer.  In fact, Sassone says "the smart money is on Murray moving him provided Niedermayer gives his ok".

Sassone goes on to say that the Vancouver Canucks "want Niedermayer badly", which plays into previous rumours that the Canucks have already made a serious offer to the Ducks to try to obtain the future Hall-Of-Fame defenseman.

I agree the Canucks could use another defenseman. I can't see Anaheim trading Niedermayer considering they are in the playoff hunt -- in fact it has been rumoured they are looking to add a dman and coveted Cam Barker before the Hawks traded him to Minny.

Conversely, if the Ducks were able to add a dman of Barker's ilk (which I think is unlikely) maybe it frees them up to move Niedermayer in order to acquire some extra depth and prospect for the long-term.
