BOUCHERVILLE, Thursday, February 4, 2010 - The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Disciplinary Prefect, Raymond Bolduc, today suspended Val-d’Or Foreurs defenseman Marco Scandella indefinitely for a hit to the head. The incident occurred during yesterday’s game versus the Rimouski Océanic.

"This afternoon, Raymond Bolduc informed me of his decision to suspend Marco Scandella indefinitely," said League Commissioner Gilles Courteau. "After seeing the hit, I believe it is the right decision while the disciplinary process runs its course. Our position is clear: We have a responsibility to protect our players. Their safety is our number one priority."

Mikhail Stefanovich Named CHL Player of the Week, Mosher earns Telus Defense Player of the Week
TORONTO, Thursday, February 4, 2010 – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward Mikhail Stefanovich of the Quebec Remparts is the CHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 31. Stefanovich scored six goals with five assists for 11 points in three games with an impressive plus-minus rating of plus-7.
On defence, Evan Mosher earns the award. The goaltender registered wins over the Foreurs and the Titan, pushing away fifty of the fifty-three shots he faced. Mosher closed out the week with a 1.50 goals-against-average and .943 save percentage. P.E.I. is moving up in the Atlantic Division standings after five consecutive wins.

Hoffman, Savard and Belzile named TELUS Players of the Month
Mike Hoffman was selected on offence. In ten games, the forward collected seven goals and twelve assists while posting a +6 rating. Moreover, two of his markers were game-winners. The Kitchener native registered at least one point in each game, helping the Sea Dogs record eight wins in the past four weeks. Saint John is first in the overall standings and sits at the top of the CHL BMO MasterCard rankings.

Philip-Michaël Devos (Tigres), Nicolas Deschamps (Wildcats) and Gabriel Dumont (Voltigeurs) were also considered.

David Savard earns the hardware for a second consecutive month. In twelve contests, the Wildcats defenseman recorded three goals, including a game-winner, and added fifteen helpers. Furthermore, he registered a +12 rating. Savard has collected at least one point in his last eleven games. Moncton has also been strong in shorthanded situations, posting a 94.5% success rate. The Wildcats have won their last twelve games.

Nicholas Champion (Huskies), Nicola Riopel (Wildcats) and Joël Chouinard (Tigres) were also in the mix.

Alex Belzile gets the nod as the month’s top rookie. In twelve games, the 18-year-old center registered three goals and added thirteen assists while posting a +3 rating. The eleventh round selection in last year’s entry draft also netted a game-winner. Since graduating to the QMJHL after the Christmas break, Belzile has recorded twenty-one points in fourteen games, failing to register a point in only two contests.
Sea Dogs hold on to top spot of CHL BMO MasterCard Top 10 rankings

TORONTO, Wednesday, February 3, 2010 – The Canadian Hockey League today announced its most recent BMO CHL MasterCard Top 10 rankings for the 2009-10 season.

The Saint John Sea Dogs remain in the top spot for a third consecutive week. Two other Quebec Major Junior Hockey League teams managed to crack the upper echelon of the CHL: The Moncton Wildcats and the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

The weekly rankings of the Canadian Hockey League's top 10 teams are selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts.

Daily Fantasy Hockey Gold

Two assists by Los Angeles Kings defenseman Randy Jones gives him 17 points in 32 games on the year.  It's really a shame that Jones is as terrible as he is defensively because he would hold some fantasy value if he were more consistent and could gain more ice-time.  Unfortunately Jones is soft, often makes poor passes that lead to turnovers, and isn't very good positionally - three detrimental areas that overshadow the positive things he is capable of doing offensively.

Marc Savard has a grade two concussion after the hit to the head he took from Matt Cooke.  He'll have to wait a few days before doctors can get a better understanding of how long he'll be out.  

Terrible night for the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night.  Not only did they manage just 11 shots on goal in a 6-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings, but they also lost star forward Rick Nash to a lower body injury.  Nash is rumoured to have already been nursing an injury, despite playing.  No word yet on how long he will be out.

Wonder what the over/under is on Kyle Beach making the Chicago Blackhawks next season.  The Hawks will be tight against the salary cap and the 6-3, 215 lb
