Victor Hedman - D

Class of 2009 - 1st round (2nd overall)

Drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning

NHL Translation:  Franchise Defenseman

NHL Comparible:  Chris Pronger

“He is the best defencemen coming out of Sweden — or Europe — for many, many years. His overall skill and understanding of the game is so high that he doesn’t need to play physical, even if he is big.”
Goran Stubb, chief European scout, NHL Central Scouting
"He has to get stronger on and off the ice and that's going to take time, but he has the skill set to be able to do what NHL players do. He's very good at shutting players down, his angles in the corners and his angles on one-on-one plays are very good. So that's the one thing he'll have ahead of other younger defensemen."
Rick Tocchet, Head Coach, Tampa Bay Lightning
"He ends up being the No. 1 defenseman on whatever team he's on. He ends up as Nicklas Lidstrom."
E.J. McGuire, Chief Scout, NHL Central Scouting
